Apple is changing the iPhone charger and earphone charging case that's been launched for the AirPods 2017, to include a charger with a tray that would hold AirPods case.
Now, Apple iPhone charging model number, etc. There’s no official word or statement from Apple saying “this is an AirPods charging case”, but it certainly looks like it. Well, it seems that it goes through certifications. Take a look at a photo of this case from MirrorDot.
As the numbers in the documents tell us, this is a “good-will subsidy and it will be distributed more broadly than any product available” in the market, so whether this is a new version of the silicone case, new housing for the AirPods or a combination of them seems unlikely to be the same thing.
If this is a new iPhone case you don’t pay it directly, but the costs are somehow attributed to them. The cushion case itself costs $49, with the charging case costing $49. The box is reusable and the silicone case can be reused. This case costs about $70 to make.
This AirPods charger case is more than capable, but we expect it to be a little more expensive to make because it’s something unusual. But an AirPods case can be expensive to make either, even if the case and AirPods are cheaper (much cheaper than the case) to make. The long and short of it is that it seems that this is an AirPods charger case not a new design for a case for AirPods.
This charging case for the AirPods 2017 doesn’t have a description on Apple's official webpage, so it’s something you probably don’t know is fake, but it looks right. It’s the holder of something called a “goodwill subsidy”. From an insider perspective, this means they don’t pay or pass the costs directly from Apple because Apple makes the products. On the surface that’s, that’s what it looks like, but anyone with a hard calculator would calculate it from those numbers.
So even though it’s Apple-made, it’s a fake because it’s not paid for with Apple credits. But that’s what happens when you make a fake accessory.
